The Gold Coast, with its outstanding sporting facilities and stunning attractions will deliver a memorable experience underpinned by a passionate community.
Core sports
The core Sport Program for each Games is determined by the Commonwealth Games Federation and comprises 10 core sports. The core sports for the 2018 Commonwealth Games are:
• Athletics • Aquatics (Swimming, Diving)
• Badminton • Boxing
• Hockey • Lawn Bowls
• Netball (women) • Squash
• Rugby 7's • Weightlifting
Optional sports
The Gold Coast as a candidate city may then select up to a further seven sports chosen from a list of optional sports provided by and approved by the Commonwealth Games Federation. A maximum of four team sports can be included in the overall sports program.
In proposing the seven optional sports, the Australian Commonwealth Games Association in conjunction with the Gold Coast Bid Team has given due consideration to the number of competing Commonwealth athletes in the respective optional sports, the opportunity for competition amongst respective Commonwealth nations in the proposed program and the interest/knowledge of the sport by the participating and viewing public.
• Basketball • Shooting (Clay Target, Full Bore, Pistol, Small Bore)
• Table Tennis • Cycling (Road, Time Trial, Track, Mountain Bike)
• Gymnastics • Triathlon
• Wrestling
Para-Sports
Inclusive within the sports program are Para-Sports. The four core Para-Sports nominated by the Commonwealth Games Federation and included in the program are:
• Athletics • Aquatics (Swimming)
• Lawn Bowls • Power Lifting
The Gold Coast also has the opportunity to select additional Para-Sports from the nominated sports of Cycling (Track), Table Tennis and Wheelchair Basketball.

This page has been established by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Organising Corporation (‘GOLDOC’) to keep you up-to-date with the latest Games news and to provide you with an insight into how the Games are brought to life.
This is a place for news and discussion about the Games. We ask that you respect this and keep to the subject. We also ask that you respect the views of others even if they differ from your own.
Your posts may be removed and repeat offenders blocked should you not abide by the following rules. We may remove such material in our sole discretion and determination which may include without limitation any content which is promotional, publicity seeking or consists of an advertisement be it in the electronic message itself or sign-off and/or signature. Any other inappropriate content or comments may also be removed as determined in GOLDOC’s absolute discretion.
1 Be Courteous
• Be friendly, helpful and courteous;
• Do not use violent, adult, obscene, divisive, offensive, hateful, political or racist content, links or images or incite such comment or behaviour;
• Abuse, insults, accusations, name-calling, profanity and personal attacks are not permitted;
• Disruptive comments intended to cause hostile action and incite disruption are not acceptable.
2 Observe the Law
• Do not make any unlawful, libellous, defamatory posts, or posts which are an invasion of privacy;
• Do not post or transmit content which infringes any copyright, trade mark, patent or other intellectual property right or any moral right or cause the unlawful distribution of copyrighted content or illegal content;
• Inaccurate, false, misleading or deceptive comments or content are not permitted;
• Do not post or transmit any material which defames, harasses, threatens, menaces, offends or restricts any person or organisation.
3 Don’t SPAM
SPAM is an electronic message that is both unsolicited and commercial in nature. Spamming is not permitted. Do not post solicitations or advertisements for commercial gain. It is unacceptable to promote any outside party services, products, websites or organisations. Participation is not for self-promotion, to get free publicity for your brand or to lobby your position on topics unrelated to the Commonwealth Games.
4 Be Relevant
Posts are to be made in the relevant place and should stay on topic. Do not post multiple or repetitive posts. This means you should avoid unrelated themes. Multiple posts on the same subject to gain more attention to your issue are not permitted.
5 Intellectual Property
GOLDOC does not claim any ownership rights of any material including but not limited to any works of authorship, information, text, photos, sounds, or video you post on our “wall” (the ‘Content’). By displaying, publishing or posting the Content you hereby grant to GOLDOC a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, non-transferable, perpetual licence to use, modify, delete from, add to, publicly display and/or reproduce, publish, communicate to the public your Content, including without limitation in any online media or new technology formats and through any social media channels, pages or accounts and to authorise other persons to do any of those things. You consent to any act or omission which would otherwise infringe your moral rights in the Content. You give a genuine creators consent to GOLDOC to deal with the moral rights in the Content:
• to use, reproduce, adapt or exploit any of the Content;
• use the Content for advertising, merchandising or promotional purposes of any kind;
• attributing ownership of the Content or failing to attribute ownership of the Content;
• materially altering the Content in any way or making any modification, variation or amendment to the Content;
• using the Content in a different context including inserting it into a website.
6 Warranty
You warrant that you have authority to post the Content to our wall and to grant the licence above and that the content and the exercise of the licence will not infringe the rights of any other person, including copyright, moral rights, rights relating to privacy and personal information.
